TIDE was founded in January 1988 by Sandra
Jones with fewer than 20 swimmers. Since then the team has grown to
approximately 250 athletes.
A team always with a strong sense of
community, TIDE aligned itself with the Jewish Community Center and
the Boys Club prior to its current long-standing relationship with
the YMCA of South Hampton Roads.
In 2000, the organizations teamed to construct
a state-of-the-art air structure over Mount Trashmore YMCA’S
25-meter pool, which is now TIDE’s home swimming
facility.
TIDE athletes have been world-ranked,
USA National qualifiers, USA Junior National qualifiers,
Virginia Swimming champions at the Age Group and Senior
Level, Virginia Swimming individual and relay record
holders, and estalished numerous USA Swimming
National Top 16 reportable performances.
Now in 2009, having celebrated 20 years of
cultivating a passion for swimming, TIDE continues to grow and
attract new talent, both in the pool and on deck. Thank you
