It’s with great excitement that we introduce you to Tide Swim
Team’s new Head Coach, Nate Boyle. “We are thrilled
that Nate Boyle has accepted our offer to lead our program. His
technical and physiological approach to coaching athletes combined
with his exceptional passion for swimming is a rare combination in
the sport.” says Jennie Carder, President of Tide. “He
has experience developing programs for swimmers at all levels and
an outstanding track-record of success.” As a world-class
coach, Nate’s philosophy and approach to training swimmers
aligns perfectly with Tide Swim Team’s mission to
“Develop personal excellence for each member of our team,
foremost in swimming, but also in life.” Boyle’s
philosophy is to create an environment that encourages setting and
achieving short and long-term goals, a positive atmosphere of
teamwork and a model where every coach and swimmer can achieve
success. Prior to joining TIDE, Boyle assisted David Marsh at the
Mecklenburg Aquatic Club Center of Excellence. The highly
successful program reached new heights under Marsh’s
leadership as three athletes qualified to compete at the 2008
Beijing Olympics that has now produced two gold medals and one epic
world record. In addition to his work with SwimMAC, Boyle also
served as an assistant coach at Davidson College where the
women’s team won a conference title and the combined squad
claimed 18 new team records. Before arriving in the Charlotte area
he served as the USA Swimming National Team Physiology Coordinator,
assisting National Team coaches and athletes with lactate and race
analysis feedback and supporting research efforts into supplemental
oxygen and force production with Auburn University Kinesiology
professors David Pascoe and Wendi Weimar. While pursuing a M.S. in
Exercise Science at his alma mater, Boyle, alongside of Bryan
Karkoska, coached a group of professional athletes that included a
2004 Olympic gold medalist who became the third-fastest American
ever in the 100-meter breaststroke. As a competitive swimmer
himself, Nate was an NCAA Division I All-American and USA National
finalist as a member of Auburn University’s 1999 NCAA
Championship Team. In addition, he represented the United States as
a National Team member at the Pan American Games that same year.
His accomplishments as an athlete also include Olympic Trials
qualification standards in 2000 and 2004. Boyle received his B.A.
in political science from Auburn University. Nate, his wife Amanda,
and their son Bear are excited to join the Hampton Roads community.

appropriate learning environment.

served as an assistant coach for the Women’s Swimming and
Diving team. As a student athlete at
Penn State University, she was a 4 time Division I All-American.

trained athletes from novice to national levels. Her passion for swimming and genuine joy towards
others lends itself to the trademark of excellence TIDE Swimming
strives to represent.
She is married to Dr. Davis Jones , a local
pediatrician, and a proud mother of three beautiful young ladies
all highly successful student athletes in their fields of endeavor.

her swimmers in ways that will help them for the rest of their
lives makes her a valuable and respected
coach.
Coach Liz Stroud joined the TIDE swim team in the spring
of 2009 while honing her knowledge of stroke technique with our
youngest athletes.
Since that time she has worked with all levels of the program to
blend the needs of all our athletes. As an athlete, Liz swam for the Hayfield Seahawks within
the Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL) for 10 years and Hayfield
High School for 2 years but had to give up her career as a swimmer
due to a severe shoulder injury. She continued to coach in the
NVSL for 3 years along with being a developmental coach for the
Competition Swim Clinic. In
addition to her time spent with TIDE, Liz is also co-head coach of
