Coach Josh Fulton joined
the TIDE program in the Fall of 2006. Throughout his coaching
career Josh has enjoyed success coaching swimmers of all levels
from the novice swimmer to the Olympic trials qualifier.
Having been a world ranked athlete himself, Josh is known for his
ability to communicate and motivate the athletes that he coaches in
a unique way. Coach Fulton brings an unparalleled passion for
the sport of swimming and strives to infect every athlete with that
same passion. TIDE has already enjoyed Josh’s
experience in shaping a highly successful Age Group program.
His leadership brought TIDE to its highest finish ever at Age Group
champs in 2010: second place. Josh has coached some of the
best age group swimmers in the country, having three TIDE athletes
in the country’s Top 10 in 2011. Josh has had the
opportunity to work and develop within the TIDE program for the
past 5 years, coaching TIDE athletes of many different levels. His
experience thus far, as a coach and as an athlete, gives him the
insight needed to continue to grow the TIDE program. Coach Fulton
is very excited about the growth and future of the TIDE program and
looks forward to creating a team centric environment that fosters
both individual and team success.
Coach Fulton’s
roots in competitive swimming and passion for the sport began
growing at an early age. His early successes occurred in high
school when he swam with Peninsula Area Swim Team. Josh's swimming
accomplishments are numerous. He held National Age Group Top 16
rankings (1998- 2001), FINA Top 100 World Rankings (1999-2004) and
top 50 rankings (2004), and was a two time Olympic Trials Qualifier
(2000, 2004). In the 2004 trials, Josh finished 29th in the 100
back and 31st in the 100 fly. In 1999, Josh won the 200m backstroke
at Junior Nationals, setting a new Junior Nationals record in the
process. In the 2000 Olympic Trials, Josh placed 26th in the 100
fly and earned the right to represent the United States in
Australia on the U.S. National Junior Team. At the 2001 Virginia
Senior Champs Josh won top male point scorer and received Virginia
Swimmer of the Year honors. Josh went on to pursue a B.A. in
Political Science at the University of Tennessee and continued his
successful swimming career. He was a 5 time NCAA All-American, a
Phillips 66 National Championship Finalist and a consistent scorer
for Tennessee at SEC Championships, serving as team captain his
senior year.
Coach Fulton brings
valuable competitive experience, both on the national and
international level, to TIDE's swimmers. His experience and success
in the pool as a swimmer and on deck as a coach, are a winning and
rare combination, and an invaluable asset to TIDE.
Coach Sandra Jones
founded TIDE Swim Team in 1988 and since that time has been
involved in every aspect and level of TIDE
Swimming. Her current position as Assistant
Coach is to support excellence within the TIDE program by
supporting Head Coach Josh Fulton in the Senior and Age Group White
programs, as well as leading the Age Group Blue program. Sandra has
a special talent for developing quality stroke mechanics at any
age. She is able to receive information at an
elite level and present information back to swimmers in an age
appropriate learning environment.
Sandra received a
Master's degree in Education (exercise science) from the University
of Pittsburgh where she served as an assistant coach for the
Women’s Swimming and Diving team. As a
student athlete at Penn State University, she was a 4-time Division
I All-American. In her 29 years of coaching experience she has
trained athletes from novice to national levels.
Her passion for swimming and genuine joy towards
others lends itself to the trademark of excellence TIDE Swimming
strives to represent.
She is married to Dr.
Davis Jones , a local pediatrician, and a proud mother of three
beautiful young ladies all highly successful student athletes in
their fields of endeavor.
Coach Sarah Greb has
returned to TIDE as the Lead Developmental Coach at Hilltop YMCA.
Previously, she worked for TIDE from Fall 2007 to Summer 2010.
Coach Sarah had started with the Hilltop Novice and TIDE group
program, before moving over to Mt. Trashmore to work with the Age
Group and Regional swimmers.
From 2004 to mid 2012, Coach Sarah worked at Dive Quarters as a
swim instructor, introducing strokes and improving stroke technique
for all age groups. In 2008, she became the assistant coach for
Broad Bay Swim Team before moving to the head coach position for
the 2009-2012 seasons. Coach Sarah has also been the head coach for
Cape Henry Collegiate's Varsity Swim Team for the 2010-2011 and
2011-2012 seasons. She restarted the JV Swim Team during the
2011-2012 season, getting middle school kids excited about swimming
in high school.
Coach Sarah swam for the Laurel Highlands Swim Team in
Pennsylvania throughout elementary and middle school before moving
to Virginia Beach. She swam for local winter and summer league swim
teams before attending Ocean Lakes High School and swimming all
four years. While earning her Undergraduate degree in Biological
Sciences, Coach Sarah was part of the Water Polo team at Virginia
Tech until graduating in 2007. Go Hokies!
Coach Sarah loves working with younger swimmers and enjoys helping
them build strong techniques that will carry them upward through
the team. She is constantly working on providing a fantastic
learning environment for all swimmers as they grow to love this
sport.
Coach Jeff Kwiatkowski joined TIDE in the
fall of 2008, working with the TIDE practice groups at the Hilltop
YMCA. Since then, Coach Jeff has moved into the age group program
at Mt Trashmore, serving as an Assistant Coach in the Senior,
Regional, and Age Group White programs. For 2012-2013, Coach Jeff
will serve as lead coach for the Regional program and will assist
Head Coach Josh Fulton with the Senior drylands program. "Coach K"
joined the coaching staff at Frank W. Cox High School as an
assistant coach in 1999 and he is now serving as an associate swim
coach. Coach Jeff also coaches swimming with the VBTCC summer
league team. Coach Jeff has a B.S. in Outdoor Recreation and
Leisure Studies and a Special Education Teaching Certification from
Old Dominion University. He has worked with the Special Education
Program at Frank W. Cox High School since 1999. Coach Jeff's
dynamic leadership, hard work, and youthful enthusiasm are assets
to our TIDE program.
Coach Liz Lowery has
over 30 years of experience in aquatics. She was an Aquatic
Director for Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation from
1990-98. She was responsible for creating and implementing
community swim lessons and for certifying staff as instructors and
lifeguards, including instruction in First Aid and CPR. In
2003 she joined the TIDE Swim Team family as both a TIDE parent and
a TIDE coach. She is lead coach for our youngest TIDE
swimmers and assists with the Age Group program. She has
initiated competitive swim lessons for local programs, extending
her expertise out into the community. Currently, Liz has
three children on TIDE Swim Team which gives her a well rounded
knowledge of competitive swimming from the beginning levels through
senior levels and high school swimming. Along with coaching and
parenting Tide swimmers she is the Head Coach of the CGYC
Cavaliers. Liz is instrumental in developing basic skills in our
youngest swimmers that will serve them well through their many
years of swimming.
Coach Will Carder joined
TIDE in 2010 as an Assistant Coach for the age group and power
programs. Will swam for TIDE for 5 years and then went on to swim
at the college level at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Nicknamed
the "MacGyver" of swim coaches, Will brings to the pool deck a
unique energy and enthusiasm that he uses to challenge his swimmers
to test their limits. Will believes each athlete has untapped
potential and he strives to motivate his swimmers to discover
theirs. In addition to his position at TIDE, Will is employed full
time by InMotion Web Hosting and works on freelance computer and
electronics projects.
Coach Terry Peltier has been an assistant Coach
for TIDE since the summer of 1998 and qualifies as a Level 2 Coach
according to standards set by the American Swim Coaches
Association. She has also successfully completed the Fundamentals
of Competitive Swimming for 8 & Under Swimmers program through
ASCA. Coach Terry swam for local USA Age Group Teams for 10 years
and she continues to train and compete in local triathlons and
multi-sport events. She studied commercial art for 2 years at
vocational school, attended the Art Institute of Atlanta, studied
Business Management at TCC and is currently studying at TCC as a
part-time student. In her spare time, she also teaches an adult
single women’s Sunday school class at London Bridge Baptist
Church. Coach Terry’s desire to positively influence her
swimmers in ways that will help them for the rest of their lives
makes her a valuable and respected coach.
Coach Becky joined
TIDE in the fall of 2010 as an Assistant Coach at our Hilltop YMCA
location. Prior to her move to Norfolk, she coached for
Swim America and served a three-year stint as the 8 and under coach
for the Dale City Frogs. Coach Becky received her
Bachelor’s of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a
minor in Special Education from Old Dominion University.
Coach Becky was the Aquatics Supervisor for three years at the JCC
where she supervised the aquatics staff and taught swim lessons.
Since 2007 she has been a Zone Director for Early Discoveries, a
four-year old ‘at-risk’
preschool program. Coach Becky is here for the swimmer both
in the pool and out, coaching them to be the best they can be in
all aspects of life.
Coach Heather joined the
TIDE Swim Team staff in September 2011 as an Assistant Coach at our
Hilltop YMCA location. She works full time for the Virginia Beach
City Public Schools as a special education teacher at Ocean Lakes
High School, after previously spending nine years working at Cox
High School. Coach Heather earned her teaching license from
Old Dominion University. She has also worked as Virginia
Beach Tennis and Country Club's six and under coach for the last
two years. Coach Heather will continue to work with our youngest
swimmers in the Tide and Age Group Blue programs at the Hilltop
YMCA.
Coach Maddie rejoined
our coaching staff in May 2012 as an Assistant Coach at our Hilltop
YMCA location, as well as working primarily with Age Group Blue and
Age Group White throughout the summer. She began her journey in the
swimming community at an early age, having started swimming for
TIDE Swim Team at age 5 and continuing for a total of 13 years.
During the 2009-2010 season, she was also an assistant coach for
TIDE at the Hilltop YMCA location. Maddie also competed for the Cox
Falcons varsity swim team all 4 years of high school. Maddie brings
a positive attitude and smiling face to the pool deck each
practice. She has an excitement and love for swimming that she
hopes will spark the same feeling within TIDE swimmers. She is here
for her swimmers both in and out of the pool, encouraging them to
enjoy all aspects of the swimming world, from practices to travel
meets with the team. While her presence at TIDE is prominent in the
summer months, she will be returning to Virginia Tech in the fall
as an Interior Design major, on track to graduate in
2014.
